Should be an interesting debate within the halls of the University Philosophical Society. Past guests have included Al Pacino, Stephen Fry, Bono, Whoopi Goldberg and Helen Mirren.

Pups Love Us!

At The Dayton Chamber Mixer this past July, held at The BunnyRanch, we were happy to donate $3000 to Carson City Animal Services, for their Pups on Parole program. "We continue to do the right things for our community" says Dennis, "we enjoy giving back!" Pups on Parole takes shelter dogs and trains them as companion pets in the community.

Our newest charity is Mason Valley Boys and Girls Club, so on your next visit, look for the charity box in the parlor and kick in a few bucks for the kids, won't ya?

THE GREAT RENO BALLOON RACE

The Great Reno Balloon Race is the world's largest FREE hot-air ballooning event. Now in its 32nd year, the festival attracts nearly 100 balloons with up to 20 special shapes. Noted as one of Reno's most colorful and spectacular events, the festival is a permanent fixture on Reno's September skyline. Events include a Glow Show and Dawn Patrol providing an amazing spectacle as balloons glow and twinkle against the dark sky. In the unbelievable mass ascension, the skies fill with colorful balloons. Specialty balloon shapes scheduled to make an appearance this year include Party Panda, Wells Fargo's Cent're Stage, Hummingbird (who will be making her U.S. inagural flight debut) and Betty Jean the Butterfly. A variety of foods, crafts, art and souvenirs are available. Held at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park (just a few miles north of downtown). The Balloon Race has won many awards over the years including 'Best Special Event in Reno' and 'Best Special Event in Northern Nevada.'

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OUTHOUSE RACES

This hilarious Comstock tradition pits teams of costumed outhouse racers against each other. One person rides and the remaining team members push, pull or drag the decorated outhouses down the racetrack.

There will be a chance to vote for the ugliest, the prettiest, the most unusual outhouses, etc. during the People's Choice Awards on Saturday. All races take place on "C" street (the main drag) in downtown Virginia City.

Typical outhouse themes vary in styles, d�cor, and originality, leaving the entries completely up to the imagination of the team and the company, group, or family that it represents. This makes for interesting renditions of artistic license! Some of the entrants from past years include "The Flapper Crappers", "The Haunted Outhouse", "Alice In Pottyland", "The Potty Poopers", "The Urinator", and "The Golden Throne" whose team comes all the way from San Jose, CA!

Nevada Day is the largest statehood celebration in the nation, commemorating Nevada's admission to statehood in 1864. It is comprised of dozens of events taking place during the final week of October � the highlight being the Nevada Day Parade, held on the last Saturday in October. Parade morning kicks-off with an 8:00am hot air balloon launch (weather permitting); a 10:00am flyover of military aircraft signals the official start to the parade. Thousands gather to watch as marching bands, creative floats, equestrian entries, and a variety of entertainment, meander their way down Carson Street.
