RANCH SPECIAL Who is excited about Hot August Nights?!

I'm so excited for Hot August Nights too! I've been going every few years myself, and it's always a blast. I'm really hoping to see some classic Mustangs there, especially those between 1969 and 1973. They're just iconic - those were the years with the legendary Boss 429 and the Mach 1 with the Cobra Jet engine. Plus, the design on those Mustangs is perfect - a great mix of classic muscle and a bit more modern style.

Anyone else going? What are you looking forward to seeing?

You should plan a trip to come out to it! Old school Dodge Chargers are awesome too! They definitely hold their own against the classic Mustangs, just don't tell anyone I said that... Which era of Chargers are you a fan of? The early ones like the 1968-70 with the big engines, or maybe the later ones like the 1971-74 with the more rounded look?"

Thank you so much! That's awesome you're such a fan of those classic engines! The late 60s and early 70s were truly a golden age for muscle car powertrains.

The undisputed kings were the Big Block V8s. These monsters had huge displacement, like the legendary Chrysler 426 Hemi, the Chevrolet 454 LS5, and the Ford 429 Cobra Jet. We're talking well over 400 horsepower, making them insanely fast machines.

But there were also fantastic Small Block V8s that offered a sweet spot of power and handling. Popular choices included the Chevy 350 Small Block, the Ford 302 Windsor, and the Mopar 340.

It wasn't all V8s though. Some manufacturers offered interesting options. For example, some Pontiac GTOs came with a powerful inline-6, and some Ford Mustangs had a punchy 289 cubic inch V8.

Fun fact: Insurance companies and emissions regulations started clamping down in the early 70s, which led to a decrease in overall horsepower through the decade.

That's cool that you dig classic cars and trucks across the board! It's true, there's a certain charm to those older vehicles. One more fun fact then... about the Cummins engine you might not know: it actually started out in Ford trucks way back in the 1960s! Dodge only got exclusive rights to the Cummins in the late 80s. I love the 1960 ford trucks. Those Cummins turbo diesels are legendary for their durability and power – perfect for hauling or towing.

 

I love "Hot August Nights"!!! My first car was a 1969 Camaro Super Sport Convertible - Yellow with Black Strip down the middle with black bucket seats V8.
