O Mio Babbini Caro from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi ...trust me, you've heard this aria somewhere, whether in a movie, a PBS Masterpiece special or a TV ad for laundry detergent, lol
Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue --version by Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Felix Slatkin, Leonard Pennario, piano
Wow @RunningSquirrel, I’m seeing a side of you I never knew we shared!! Thanks for the great classical songs
“Veni Sanctus Spiritus” - God as in “George Burns’ roll in the movie “Oh God” and not to be confused with the Great Rock and Roll group “The Godz”. Nor to be confused with the great BOC classic “Godzilla”
Nice, @joe carbols ...reminds me of walking by my college conservatory and the choir practicing this (assuming you meant the Mozart piece), which I only knew because a gal in the dorm, who was a member (and I was way out of her league) had the sheet music...my own vocal range is two notes, both flat, lol...appreciate the Blue Öyster Cult Reference
Yes of course @RunningSquirrel the reference was Mozart. This is one aria NOT used in his Requiem. But Sanctus is just as appropriate given the message Mozart was trying to portray. Ah college days. I once took a quarter (back in the day) studying nothing but various Requiems by various composers. Great class. Next quarter it was Oscar movies from 1950’s. Oh the days of Gen Ed classes.
Zing! Went The Strings Of My Heart ... old pop standard from the '30s oft-covered ... the version I know is by Judy Garland
Do You Think I’m Sexy (I wish, but I’ve been told I have other redeeming qualities) but.... give credit to Rod Stewart
Remember the backlash and Disco Demolition night at Comiskey Park ... the song is actually making fun of those John Travolta wanna-bes at the clubs, lol Eroica, Beethoven's 3rd Symphony (yeah, I know, it's not really a song, lol) ...
Oh my Gosh @RunningSquirrel you amaze me with your recent posts. It’s great to have another board member enjoy classical music. I look forward to sharing a Diet Coke some day in the parlor. keep them coming.
Great Ball’s Afire - The Killer aka Jerry Lee Lewis. One of the BEST Piano Rock and Roll legends of all time
Hot, Hot, Hot - Buster Poindexter. Saw him live in 1987 down in the Flats along the Cuyahoga River great great concert. I’m sure this song is appropriate for the weather out west! Stay cool!!!
OMG, was just watching Showboat (Howard Keel! Kathryn Grayson!) the other night...a great parody was Stan Freberg’s “Elderly Man River,” about 35 years ahead of its time re: the absurdity of Political Correctness
Okay, back on track...while we'd prefer hanging out on Livestream chat with the ladies or better yet, at the Ranches in person... Dvorák's New World Symphony No. 9 ....
Those great large production musicals are awesome @RunningSquirrel. We are very similar in our classical musical taste. One other interesting musical is Carmen Jones. It’s only in black and white but it’s a good tv musical on those rainy days. looking forward to sharing that Diet Coke
